General Information
Project Coordinator: Tomas P. Condon
Summary: ‘The RJF Project’ is a studbook program to track the lineage of the Indian Red Junglefowl, Gallus gallus murghi that were imported into the United States between 1959 and 1962 by the United States Bureau of Wildlife and Sport Fisheries (Department of the Interior). These birds, commonly referred to as the “Richardson line”, “JFW population”, or “Bump birds”, are regarded by many as the purest red junglefowl in captivity. Although records were kept for this population in the past they were discontinued for various reasons. This current program was instituted by Tomas Condon in January of 2006.
Access: The information from the project can be obtained any time simply by calling or e-mailing the project coordinator. If you do not have internet access paper copies of the studbook can be distributed at special request.

RJF Project Protocols
I. Required Identification:
Identification of the red junglefowl is done simply by applying size 14 “#1242 Aluminum Butt-End” leg bands to the birds as well as size 3 “#898 Tab-End” wing bands. These bands and tags are available in small quantities from the studbook keeper or for larger amounts they can be purchased from National Band and Tag Company at 859.261.2035 or on the web at, www.nationalband.com. When ordering it is requested that you have the bands inscribed with “T.C. RJF PROJECT” or at least with the words “RJF PROJECT” so that this becomes universal in the studbook. IMPORTANT: the holder should always check with the current studbook coordinator to make sure that the numbers are not already registered in the system for another bird. Please note that these leg bands require a special applicator. It is highly advised but not mandatory that leg bands and wing tags should be coordinated to prevent confusion.
II. Optional Identification:
If additional identification is desired by the holder this can be done using transponders available through American Veterinary Identification Devices or “AVID” at 800.336.2843 or on the web at www.avidid.com.
